Young People’s Delegation to the International Fair Trade Towns Conference 2026

Youth Voices in Fair Trade

Youth Conference Delegation

Scottish Fair Trade is delighted to offer three young people in Scotland the opportunity to attend the International Fair Trade Towns Conference in Belgium this October.

The conference brings together campaigners, producers, activists and ethical businesses from across the world to explore how communities are creating fairer and more sustainable systems of trade. Participants will hear inspiring stories, exchange ideas and build connections with people working for climate justice, workers’ rights and global fairness.

This is a chance to:

  • learn directly from the international Fair Trade movement
  • meet campaigners and producers from around the world
  • develop confidence as a global citizen and advocate
  • bring new ideas and energy back to Scotland

Participants will attend as part of a small Scottish delegation accompanied by Scottish Fair Trade staff.

IN MEMORY OF CATHERINE NEWMAN

The Catherine Newman Youth Bursary

One participant will attend through the Catherine Newman Youth Bursary, established in memory of Catherine Newman.

Catherine played a central role in organising the International Fair Trade Towns Conference when it was hosted in Edinburgh in 2025. She was passionate about internationalism, youth engagement and inspiring others to create positive change.

The bursary will support one young person who is particularly interested in creative storytelling and sharing the experience of the conference with wider audiences through social media, film, writing, photography or other creative formats.

The bursary recipient will also have the opportunity to give a short presentation at the conference in Belgium, and present a creative reflection at the Scottish Fair Trade Annual Gathering.
