The current economic system isn’t broken by accident – it’s designed this way. Many large companies make huge profits while avoiding tax and responsibility, enabled by weak rules and regulation, even when people and the planet are harmed.
Global supply chains are built to cut costs at any price. The result is low pay, unsafe work and exploitation, especially for people with the least power. These aren’t isolated scandals, they’re built into how the system works.
This affects all of us. It drives insecure jobs, rising prices and constant pressure to consume, while wealth and power concentrate at the top. We’re treated as consumers, not citizens with a voice.
Fair Trade shows another system is possible – one built on fair pay, safe work, equality and shared power. To make this the norm, we need collective action: fairer rules, stronger policies, and real support for ethical, community-focused businesses.
Swapping the system means building a fairer future that works for everyone, not just the few.
The ‘’Swap the System” zine is built by people who want a fairer economy – and that means your ideas, creativity and imagination.
We’re looking for bold, playful, challenging and hopeful contributions that explore what a fairer system could look like. That could be a photo, poem, illustration, cartoon, slogan, collage, short text – or something that doesn’t fit neatly into a box. If it sparks conversation, we want to see it.
