Christmas is just around the corner!
Every year it feels like Christmas gets bigger, and with it comes immense pressure to spend money on things that often have little or no social impact. In the run up to Christmas this year, we want to encourage people if they are thinking about buying gifts to make choices that can make a positive difference.
If you choose to buy Fair Trade gifts, you can feel confident that producers have been paid fairly and that your money is going towards an initiative that puts people and planet before profit. Many producers are trying their best to mitigate the devastating impact of the climate crisis, while still enduring the lasting effect of Covid-19. Christmas shopping gives us a chance to support them.
Of course, not everyone will have the option to choose ethical gifts this Christmas. The cost-of-living crisis continues to deepen inequalities in the UK, pushing more people into poverty. While we must do more to support our local communities, those who are able to shop ethically also have a responsibility to support disadvantaged communities in the global south too.
We all know that it can be hard enough finding the right gifts, especially when trying to buy ethically.
