The next CPG meeting on Fair Trade will spotlight an inspiring Fair Trade and organic fruit-growing initiative in Colombia – an enterprise showing how ethical trade can replace cycles of conflict with opportunities for thriving rural communities.

We will hear directly from Giovanni, whose father is a smallholder mango farmer. Giovanni, an agronomist, founded Frutos de los Andes to create employment for 35 single mothers, displaced by drug-fuelled violence and pay a fair trade price to smallholder farmers, a sustainable and deliberate alternative for the Colombian rural economy. Their model, fair trade and organic, now generates income for 384 local families with dignified, reliable livelihoods, protects biodiversity, and invests in community wellbeing.

Fruandes is beginning to export their additive-free, partially dried fruits to the UK. Each 30g pack counts as one of 5-a-day, offers a healthy lunch box option for schools and workplace and embodies a ‘virtuous circle’ of fair trade, health and social reinvestment. Attendees will have the opportunity to taste the fruit and experience its quality first-hand.
