Building Fair Trade through culture and tourism

Culture, tourism and events have the power to shape public attitudes, influence spending, and bring global issues to life for wide and diverse audiences. From festivals and conferences to visitor attractions and cultural spaces, this sector can play a vital role in advancing Fair Trade in Scotland.

As a Fair Trade Nation, Scotland has an opportunity to go further, using the visibility and influence of culture, tourism and events to strengthen fairer supply chains and raise awareness of global trade justice.

Scottish Fair Trade works with organisers and organisations that want to put fairness, sustainability and global responsibility into practice. You don’t need to have any sort of Fair Trade certification to work with us, just be committed to having a positive impact on both people and planet.

We can support you with:

  • Practical guidance for fairer events
Including our Fairer Festivals guide, designed to help embed Fair Trade principles across planning, procurement and delivery.
  • Advice for hotel and accommodation providers
Our Fairer Hotels guide outlines steps that accommodation providers can take to embed Fair Trade, ethical sourcing and sustainability across their operations and guest experience.
  • Ethical and Fair Trade sourcing
Support to review supply chains and explore Fair Trade or ethical alternatives, from food and drink to merchandise and materials.
  • Recognition and visibility
Endorsement and promotion for events demonstrating Fair Trade and sustainability in action.
  • Consultancy and tailored support
Working with you to develop policies, practices and approaches aligned with Fair Trade principles.
  • Creative collaboration and campaigns
Partnering on audience engagement that connects culture and events to global trade justice.

If you work in culture, tourism or events and want support that’s practical, collaborative and values-led, we’d love to hear from you. Get in touch with Kiera Wilkins at: kiera@scottishfairtrade.org

A commitment to fair trade

Fair Trade Verification & Certification

Verification and certification routes are ideal for businesses who would like to make a formal commitment to Fair Trade. As one of the greatest successes of the ethical consumer movement, investing in Fair Trade can help businesses effortlessly signal their commitment to sustainable, responsible and fairer standards in production.

The World Fair Trade Organisation (WFTO) is the global community and verifier of social enterprises that fully practice Fair Trade.  Becoming a WFTO Guaranteed Member is the gold standard for ethical business and ensures everything you do is focused on the needs of economically marginalised producers and the protection of our planet.

The Fairtrade Mark is a globally recognised sustainable sourcing certification programme that seeks to build transparent supply chains that bring real benefit to producers.

We can help you to determine which route may be most suitable for your business.
