It’s been a big year for us here at Scottish Fair Trade. Together we have built connections across Scotland’s Fair Trade Movement, bringing together campaigners, businesses, public bodies and partners around a shared commitment to justice and sustainability in trade.
IN MEMORY OF CATHERINE NEWMAN
Support the Catherine Newman Youth Bursary
Created in memory of our friend and colleague Catherine Newman, this bursary will support young people in Scotland to connect with the international Fair Trade movement and become the next generation of advocates for global justice.
Catherine played a central role in organising the International Fair Trade Towns Conference when it was hosted in Edinburgh in 2025. She brought huge energy, creativity and care to the event, and was passionate about encouraging more young people to get involved in Fair Trade campaigning through initiatives like our Youth Collective.
The Catherine Newman Youth Bursary will fund one young person to attend the 2026 conference in Belgium, while helping us build a lasting fund for future youth participation opportunities.
With your support, more young people will have the chance to learn, connect and create change, just as Catherine inspired others to do.

Earlier this summer, Scottish Fair Trade was invited to take part in an expert panel discussion convened by twentyfifty, working with Scotland’s International Development Alliance (SIDA), to help one of the “Big Four” major banking group in the UK think through one of the hardest questions in responsible business: how do the producers, farmers and workers at the very end of a financing chain actually raise a concern when something goes wrong?
In this guest blog, responding to the context of the 2026 Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow, SCIAF Intern Rebecca Foster turns our attention away from the physical hurdles faced by athletes towards the invisible hurdles faced by many previously colonised nations. Read on to learn more about the high-level roundtable on debt justice hosted by the Scottish Government in partnership with SCIAF, attended by Scottish Fair Trade among others.
Many organisations are doing well on environmental issues, but there’s often a gap when it comes to people. Fair Change Co (Scottish Fair Trade’s trading subsidiary) brought on Maëlle Tholomé as a volunteer to help us understand that gap better and identify where we can support change.
